an ageing population
Our mission
The EU-funded SmILE Project is working to improve life for older adults living with bone and joint conditions such as arthritis, osteoporosis, and fractures. These conditions can affect mobility, independence, and overall well-being.
Our goal is to support healthy ageing by offering smarter ways to manage your diseases, detect problems early, enabling direct contact to your health care professionals by sharing your data, enable innovative and new treatment approaches and help you stay active and independent for longer.

The importance of data
With 26 renowned partners across Europe, we are developing smart implants and wearable devices to monitor the body and collect valuable health data without time-consuming and stressful visits at the doctors office or hospital.
As this is your data, we are enabled to supply individual feedback for you instead of generalized information for everybody. This includes information about how well bones are healing, how much a person is moving, and whether there is strain or a risk of injury. This data will be securely shared with their doctors so they can provide better, more personalized care, right when it’s needed.
Not just patients, but partners
By developing a simple, user-friendly app, we want people to access their health information, track health progress, get tailored advice on activities and exercises, and stay connected with their doctors and care team quickly and safely.
In fact, we believe that patients should be active partners in their care, not just passive recipients.
