Contribute to SmILE Research: Take Part in Our Online Survey on Smart Implants!
As part of the EU-funded SmILE project, researchers at the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) are conducting a study to better understand patients’ perspectives on smart implants and their use in musculoskeletal care. The study “Acceptance and Requirements for Smart Implants in Musculoskeletal Disorders (ARI-MSK)” has started and we invite you to participate.
We want to hear from patients with musculoskeletal conditions about their thoughts on smart implants: What are your expectations? What concerns do you have? What needs are important to you?
You can participate if you are at least 18 years old and
• have a musculoskeletal condition (e.g., osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, or rheumatological conditions such as arthritis),
• or have already received a conventional or smart orthopedic implant (e.g., hip or knee prosthesis),
• or have had a bone fracture that was treated surgically,
• or are over 60 years old.
Participation is anonymous and takes about 20 minutes. You can access the English version of the survey here, or scan the QR Code with your smartphone camera:

Your Perspective Matters! Participation in Interviews
In the interviews, we also want to learn about your needs, expectations, and concerns regarding smart implants. Additionally, we are interested in how you manage your daily life with your condition and the challenges involved. The interview format allows you to ask open questions and share your perspective in more depth. The interview can be conducted according to your preference — in person at ISE, by phone, or via video conference — and lasts about 30–45 minutes.
The eligibility criteria are the same as for the online survey.
